The North Shropshire Reinforcement project was a major SPEN NSIP scheme delivering 21km of 132 kV overhead line between Oswestry and Wem using trident‑design wooden poles, an additional underground cable section and several lower‑voltage diversions. Our team was responsible for securing all required easements and leases for the overhead line, land lease arrangements, and underground cable installation.
Our approach
Freedom carried out the initial feasibility study followed by the full consenting processutilising our inhouse GIS/CAD team and acted as the first point of contact for all land interestnegotiations, with 95% of all interested parties agreeing to give voluntary consent.
We established construction access routes, supporting our ecological and arboricultureconsultants including all statutory and non-statutory consent.
Our experienced Surveyors and Land Officers helped to establish good communication andtrust to ensure that designs and mitigation measures were agreed with all statutory bodies, the National Park and Local Authorities, together with landowners and their agents.
We understood the need to establish and keep good communications with all stakeholders, throughout the process. We maintained accurate and up to date records of all verbal, written and email communications to ensure that all ongoing negotiations were based on accurate and contemporary information.
