Freedom supports the construction side of the Sizewell C project with site clearances, tree works, hedgerow removals and the sensitive management of any ecological constraints to enable the civil side of the project.
We are the sole provider of all ecological pre-commencement checks, Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) species management surveys and licensable mitigation work, in line with the DCO and any Natural England requirements.
Ecological supervision and mitigation
Daily ecological briefings and supervision across all construction phases and locations,supporting Tier 1 contractors
Bat roost inspections and implementation of exclusion techniques where required
Badger mitigation including monitoring, sett closures, installation and ongoing maintenance of artificial setts
Water vole trapping, translocation and licensed habitat destruction, delivered under Natural England licence.
Enabling works vegetation clearance
Site surveys and risk assessments, identifying hazards, tree condition, stability, access and felling methods
Use of specialist equipment including excavators with shear or grab attachments, tracked dumpers,bush cutters, chippers, winches and cranes
Application of appropriate felling techniques including straight felling, controlled directional felling and sectional dismantling by arborists
Post‑felling activities including stump treatment, ground reinstatement, replanting of target species and production of clearance reports.
