Since 2023, Freedom has delivered all ecology, arboriculture, enabling, landscaping, and grounds‑maintenance services for the Sizewell C infrastructure project. Our remit spans multiple linear schemes, including two new link roads, a new rail connection, and several interconnected construction zones across the Eastern Suffolk region.
Our approach
Freedom delivers the project’s annual land‑management programme across the non‑construction estate, following a strategic Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP) aligned with DCO biodiversity and habitat‑enhancement requirements.
Activities include reed translocation, water‑level and river‑silt management, seasonal planting, and protected‑species mitigation. We provide the full Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) service, coordinating 14–28 ecologists daily across multiple sites. Our ECoWs deliver technical guidance and maintain auditable compliance records for protected‑species licences and wider DCO ecology commitments.
We also conduct protected‑species surveys, prepares mitigation‑licence applications for badgers and water voles, and designs, creates, and manages compensatory and enhanced habitats. In parallel,we provide comprehensive arboricultural services, including safety assessments and TRIMS support,BS5837:2012 tree surveys for planning, and Arboricultural Clerk of Works during construction. Our specialists also deliver woodland management, advanced decay diagnostics, CAVAT and QTRA assessments, and tree‑planting strategies to support environmentally sensitive infrastructure works.
Enabling works and construction support
Freedom delivers phased environmental and enabling works across multiple sites, including sensitive vegetation removal, stump extraction, ditch slubbing, and large‑scale landscaping, all delivered to programme and budget.
We coordinate with eight Tier 1 contractors, local authorities, landowners, and the client, while working closely with Natural England and the Environment Agency to ensure regulatory compliance. Permits are aligned with construction timelines.
The project continues to progress successfully with Freedom awarded further works across the wider Sizewell C programme.
