EDF Sizewell C - Integrated Land Management Plan
Our specialists work with the client’s environmental land management team to deliver over 350 annual tasks, aligned with DCO planning requirements and Biodiversity Net Gain targets.
Integrated land management supporting resilient natural environments
We deliver an Integrated Land Management Plan that brings together ecological expertise, practical delivery and long‑term stewardship to enhance natural environments across complex sites. Our approach supports rivers, wetlands, ponds, woodlands and grasslands, ensuring habitats are created, restored and managed sustainably while meeting regulatory and environmental commitments.
Across river, wetland and pond environments, we undertake both small‑ and large‑scale habitat enhancement works, including the creation of new ponds and wetlands designed to improve biodiversity and water resilience. We deliver licensed mitigation works associated with rivers, wetlands and ponds, supporting protected species such as water voles, great crested newts and natterjack toads through sensitive, compliant interventions.
Our teams also carry out the re‑profiling and re‑naturalisation of main rivers and ordinary waterbodies, providing an integrated design and build service that restores natural processes while improving flood capacity and ecological function. Nature‑based solutions form a core part of this work, incorporating both soft and hard flood alleviation measures to manage water sustainably and reduce environmental risk.
Our woodland and grassland management services focus on establishing and maintaining healthy, resilient landscapes. We undertake ground preparation for new woodland and forestry sites, carefully considering soil conditions and local management plans to support successful establishment. Tree and woodland planting is delivered in line with site‑specific requirements, while felling, vegetation management and the processing and sale of biomass are carried out where appropriate to support ongoing land management objectives.
Recognising the importance of soil as the foundation of successful habitats, we manage ground preparation across sites with unique and challenging soil conditions. This includes soil cultivation and conditioning prior to seeding or greening, alongside hay collecting and spreading to promote species‑rich grassland establishment. Pest control across all species is also undertaken where required, ensuring sites remain balanced, productive and protected.
Through this integrated approach, Freedom Land and Environment Management provides joined‑up land management solutions that enhance biodiversity, support protected species and create robust natural environments capable of thriving alongside infrastructure and development.
