Our Geospatial Surveying team provided full survey support for Project Olympus, a major high-voltage cable installation linking a new East London data centre to National Grid substations.

Covering approximately 20km of heavily congested streets, the project aimed to deliver a fully diverse, fail‑safe power supply.

Challenges faced

  • Compressed programme with early survey outputs needed to maintain momentum across a complex project

  • Limited routing options with engineering constraints requiring precise positional certainty. Challenging survey environment,including narrow footways, parked vehicles, buses, and heavy traffic flows restricting survey equipment ​deployment

  • Complex coordination with multiple stakeholders due to a congested underground utility environment and need to minimise traffic disruption across central London.

Solutions delivered

  • Delivered a comprehensive, verified dataset integrating topographical, PAS 128 and QLA information to timescale

  • Identified engineering pinch points early, ​reducing design risk. Maintained exceptional survey accuracy while reducing on‑street disruption. Combined IDS Stream UP GPR and Leica Pegasus TRK mobile mapping systems with traditional topographical and utility detection methods

  • Coordinated collaboration across department sand stakeholders. Minimised the need for traffic management on busy London highways by maximising mobile data capture.

Value delivered

The commissioned works formed part of a multi‑million‑pound design and build contract, delivered through close cross‑department collaboration.​

Alignment with internal design, engineering, civils, and project delivery teams ensured survey outputs were fully integrated into the wider programme. This cross‑department collaboration accelerated decision‑making,reduced rework, and strengthened delivery efficiency.
